Photo #N19-2Coke Ovens #1
Hosmer, BC

These haunting ruins date back to around the early 1900's when Hosmer was the site of a coal mining operation. This is the end of a row of coke ovens. Over time, nature has begun to reclaim the area. Large, mature trees like the one depicted here have are firmly rooted into the stone work. I wish I had a shot which captured more detail of how the roots have intertwined with this man made structure but I do like the texture brought out by the low angle lighting.
