Photo #N25-31

Diplomat Mine #1

November of 2003 brought crisp, cool nights and clear skies under a bright, full moon for this shoot at the old Diplomat Mine Site near Forestburg, Alberta. These are stripping shovels, once used to strip mine coal located close to the surface. The only thing I find slightly disappointing about this photo series was that the featureless terrain provided little I could use as context to give these machines a sense of scale. They are actually much bigger than they appear here. This shot, for example, was taken at eye level.
